“Bundling Them: Birth–Death ” is a series of works focusing on the act of bundling that appears at the boundary between life, birth and death.
In traditional Korean culture, when a child is born, a gold rope (or "금줄") is hung at the entrance of the house to ward off evil, and during funerals, the body of the deceased is wrapped in a cloth and tied together in an attack (or “염습”). These rituals have been viewed as symbols that separate but simultaneously link life and death.
The bundles of kozo stalks in the work represent such time and meaning.
